Welcome to Games for Breakfast, a new feature series here on BagoGames!
Games for Breakfast, written by features editor Angelo De Bellis, is a daily opinion piece of about 250-500 words—I gotta keep it brief—that engages topical game news. Every new post will go live at 9am EST so that you can grab your cup of coffee and read a brief account of a particular gamer’s take on the latest goings-on in the industry.
So today’s Games for Breakfast post was going to be about some of my favorite features seen in the the Horizon Zero Dawn livestream that took place the other day, but that’s not happening. It seems that I’m a baby when it comes to spoilers.
Yesterday evening I began watching a bit of the recorded stream on YouTube and had to immediately turn it off–I’m just too excited for the game to indulge myself in in any story or feature spoilers. I wonder if you share the sentiment: the less one knows about a game, the more exciting and surprising the final product is. Now of course I’m not saying that you should’t read reviews to learn about what makes a particular adventure worth your money, but if you know the game is going to be great, and Horizon Zero Dawn seems to fit the bill, it’s best not to know what to expect aside from some cursory details.
It really is a stunning affair, considering that the developer, Guerrilla Games, made its name from the Killzone series of first-person shooters. Just from the few minutes of the livestream I learned that the game is absolutely stunning, and I could pick out that there are going to be some complex RPG elements on offer. But I think that’s going to be enough for me. How about for you–do you like when highly anticipated titles don’t receive much advertising/detailing before launch? Are there certain games that you wish we knew more about, games like The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild or Mass Effect: Andromeda?
