If you are like most individuals locked indoors due to the COVID-19 virus, you’ve probably spent countless hours going through your gaming library. You’ve likely ordered some new games or dusted off some of those classics and replayed them. Whatever the situation is, there is no denying that you have a lot of time on your hands to kill. And, there will be no better way to kill that time than by taking advantage of the much-anticipated release of the Last of us Part 2. It is just right around the corner and now is the best time to get prepared for the game. However, being that it has been a number of years since the original release on console, many people will probably have a hard time just even remembering what the story is about. Well, that’s exactly where this little refresher will come in handy.
Remembering The Infected
Throughout the journey, you probably remember coming into contact with zombie-like creatures known as the infected. If not, you’ll get acquainted with them real quick because that’s what the people in this world are turning into. They are like zombies, but their roots are more grounded in reality than what you might imagine. This is the whole premises of the game. There was an outbreak of a fungus known as Ophiocordyceps unilateralis that infects humans and turns them into zombie-like creatures.
Once infected there are five different stages that a person can go through. The first stage will be when the hosts lose all control over their bodies and become what is known as a runner. In this stage, the host will be able to maintain his or her eyesight but will stop at absolutely nothing to infect others. The second stage is similar to the first, but this is when the fungus starts to grow. It’ll spread all over the face and body during this stage. Second stage victims are usually referred to as stalkers. The third stage is when the host becomes completely blind and the fungus starts to attack the brain.
Clickers are what these infected are referred to as because they use echolocation to find more hosts and make a clicking noise. Beyond these stages, you have the bloaters, which grow armor-like plating and distribute infectious spores by throwing out grenade-like projectiles. The last stage is when the host is completely gone and there is nothing left but a fungus. The life cycle isn’t entirely over and the host can still distribute airborne spores that will infest others that come close.
Fireflies
You’ll find the Fireflies right at the center of the game. If you remember anyone or any group from the game, it is likely that you remember the Fireflies. They are a paramilitary group that joined arms with the US government to find a cure for the infection and restore the three branches of government. There will be a lot more to learn about this group, but for now, you just need to know that they are paramount to the entire narrative. Just remember not to spend all your time playing the sequel because there are tons of quality online gambling sites like Joker123 where you can potentially win real money. You could use this money to buy a copy of the game or other games.
The Focus Of Part 1
Part 1 of this game was really based around two main characters. This would have been Joel, a single father, and Ellie, a teenage girl who seems to be very important to the Fireflies. The story basically starts with Joel celebrating his birthday in his 20s when alarms start going off everywhere. Joel and his daughter make it out of their house and meet up with Joel’s brother, Tommy, at the quarantine line. The group is eventually separated and Sarah and Joel are both shot by a solider. Sarah, Joel’s daughter dies. This probably explains why he feels so connected to Ellie.
This is when the real action beings and the story really takes off. Joel is now in his 40s, crossed some questionable morale lines, and working with a partner named Tess. The two are trying to make their way to the Fireflies, where they eventually do and are promised a whole cache of guns if they smuggle Ellie, a 14 year old girl, out of the city. Things go wrong and Joel and Ellie end up together surviving, foraging, living, and just trying to make it. There is still a lot of story left, but this is pretty much the gist of it. Just know that Ellie and Joel go through a lot together, share a lot together, and develop a bond that will forever be unbroken.
