The live-action, American-made remake of the classic anime franchise Ghost in the Shell is currently being developed by Dreamworks with Rupert Sanders (Snow White and the Huntsman) attached to direct. And now it appears that Margot Robbie (The Wolf of Wall Street) is in talks to appear in the film as presumably the lead character, Motoko Kusanagi. The character from the manga/anime series was the major of Section 9, a task force assigned to dealing with severe cyber terrorism. Taking place in a futuristic setting where iPhones are essentially built into your brain, they’re the most crucial line of defense in a world full of hackers that could easily take over your eyeballs.
While there isn’t an official synopsis on what the story for this live-action movie will be about, it is being written by Bill Wheeler and is apparently going to be based on the manga. One key story from both the manga, anime movie and anime series was the Puppet Master arc in which a self-aware intelligence seeking to merge with a human mind to procreate takes aim at Motoko. So there is a high chance the story could revolve around the Puppet Master.
Margot Robbie is currently shooting Tarzan in London.
