In its fourth week at the box office, Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy bumped back up to #1 with a weekend gross of $17,631,000. It doesn’t sound like a lot to come roaring back, but it was slightly competitive weekend in the late days of summer. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles followed very close behind with $16,800,000. Also very close behind was the new Chloe Moretz starring drama If I Stay with $16,355,000. The rest of the new film scraped up little remains. The new football drama When The Game Stands Tall only brought in $9,000,000 while Frank Miller’s Sin City: A Dame to Kill For came in dead last with a meager $6,477,000. What we’ve learned this week is the Marvel movies have staying power in the face of tough competition while 9-year-old comic book follow-ups are just a few years too late.
