Alpha Polaris, an old-school point-and-click adventure/horror game has been released on Steam, just in time for the Halloween season.
The game takes place in the frozen tundra of Greenland at Alpha Polaris, an American oil research station. At the station, a huge ion storm has been gathering, bringing about a “strange mixing of reality and night terrors”.
Alpha Polaris is an authentic Arctic production as it has been developed by Turmoil Games, an indie studio situated in the Finnish Lapland. Alpha Polaris was influenced by a rich blend of Inuit legends, Cthulhu mythos, and a real blight polar bears still face to this day.
Alpha Polaris is more character-based, however, and focuses more on environmental and character-driven horror themes.
According to Alpha Polaris project leader, Teemu Vilen, “The heart of the game is its restrained horror setting. It allows us to explore a wide range of human themes in a realistic way: paranoia, isolation, friendship, love and so on. To us, that is the core of a good horror adventure.”
The game was previously released back in 2011, but the Steam release features some new additions and tweaks to the original. Some of these tweaks include:
Expanded resolution support
Bug and dialogue fixes
And English voice acting with in-game texts available in English, Russian, German, and Polish.
