Earlier today in Sweden, Image&Form announced the next game in the SteamWorld series is not SteamWorld Dig 2 but instead SteamWorld Heist. Since SteamWorld Dig had success on the PlayStation and Nintendo consoles, it would’ve been a logical guess to assume there would be a sequel. Instead the team has decided to venture into a different world and genre with their upcoming game.
SteamWorld Heist has been in development since 2013 and it’s a turn-based space adventure survival game. The game take places after the events of SteamWorld Dig and since we were last in the mines, a major event has happened which has forced the heroic cowbots into space in steam-driven spaceships. This game is not to be considered a sequel but yet another story to be told in the SteamWorld franchise.
Players will control a captain who leads a makeshift crew of robots who set out to explore and scrounge up any remnants from a world once inhabited. Expect to board enemy ships and via a turn-based mechanic, order your crew to engage in turn-based combat. Your crew will be boarding these ships to not only gain control but to survive as water is in short supply and more then likely these ships will contain the needed H2O.
SteamWorld Heist will be released in the Spring of 2015. At this time Image&Form are not ready to discuss platforms, price and a release date. Earlier today, Brjann (CEO of Image&Form) said about SteamWorld Heist: “It will be full of surprises and probably the best game ever”.
