January 2018’s free PS Plus games have been announced. This month, six games have been announced along with a couple bonuses. First up, PS4 users can add Deus Ex: Mankind Divided and Batman: The Telltale Series. PlayStation 3 users can add Sacred 3 and The Book of Unwritten Tales 2. Finally, PS Vita users can add Psycho-Pass: Mandatory Happiness and Uncanny Valley. Both Vita games are also available for PS4 via Cross-Buy.
Here comes the infomercial line: but wait, there’s more! From January 2 through March 6, PS Plus members can add Starblood Arena to their digital library. Starblood Arena is an arena combat game built to be played in VR. This isn’t the first free PSVR title given by PlayStation, as they previously offered Until Dawn: Rush of Blood.
The second bonus is for Warframe fans or for those that want a boost to get started on it. The PlayStation Plus Booster Pack II Bundle offers a nice deal for players. The pack includes 100 Platinum, 50,000 Credits, Akmagnus Dual Pistols, Akmagnus Obsidian Skin, a 3-Day Affinity Booster, a 3-Day Credit Booster, and a Dragon Mod Pack. This is available until February 13, 2018, for all PS Plus members.
Deus Ex: Mankind Divided is the follow-up to Deus Ex: Human Revolution. The game mixes action and stealth with RPG elements. Whether it be stealthy or guns blazing, the game touts the freedom to play however the player chooses. We gave Deus Ex: Mankind Divided a 7 out of 10 citing both the story and side missions as high points in the game.
Batman: The Telltale Series has players take on the role of both Batman and Bruce Wayne. Each choice has a consequence as the series goes on. We gave the first episode of Batman: The Telltale Series a 10 out of 10 for its fresh take on Batman, the voice acting, and the unique design.
Sacred 3 is a hack and slash adventure game which we gave a 5 out of 10. While it was visually pleasing with fun co-op, it was overly simple and repetitive with a lack of customization. The other PS3 title, The Book of Unwritten Tales 2 is a point-and-click adventure game we gave a 9 out of 10. It was praised for the graphics, story, writing, and voice acting.
Psycho-Pass: Mandatory Happiness is a visual novel based on the anime Psycho-Pass. We gave it a 5.5 praising how it stayed true to the plot with nice new additions, however, it was dragged down by the antagonist and poor ending determining system. Uncanny Valley is a survival-horror game where the choices you make have an impact in the narrative. We gave it a 6.5 for the sound design and game mechanics but had clunky stealth execution and a lackluster buildup toward the higher endings.
You have until Tuesday to pick up December’s titles.
Overall, this is one of the better lineup of games PlayStation has put out in a while. Let us know what you think in the comment section below.
