The next entry in the Kingdom Hearts saga, Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance will be hitting the Nintendo 3DS in the summer of 2012. Series lead, Tetsuya Nomura, has stated that plans are already in motion for the next entry. In an interview with Japan’s Kingdom Hearts 3D Ultimania guide book, he states that an announcement should be coming soon.
The little snippet from Nomura should give fans of the series enough to wet their whistles. While a number of recent handheld releases from Square Enix have mashed the worlds of Disney and Final Fantasy, the current console generation has somehow been given the shaft. The last console release was Kingdom Hearts 2 for the PlayStation 2 in 2005. There has been no confirmation that Nomura’s hinted-at reveal will indeed be Kingdom Hearts 3, but there is hope.
