Big Huge Games were apparently in the ‘pre-production’ phase of developing Kingdoms of Amalur 2, looking for a publisher to take on the series but were unable to continue it after 38 Studios, who owns the developer, laid off its entire workforce and BHG was shut for good.
Kingdoms of Amalur 2 was supposed to have enhanced graphics and action, focusing on lowering loading times as well as development of improved animations, with the developer having taken on board much of the feedback generated from the first title, Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning. KoA:R was generally well received. 38 Studios were unable to pay back much of its debt meaning the IP of Amalur may go to the state of Rhode Island and apparently, there’s a hefty price attached to it for anyone who wishes to pick up the series and continue it. Those hoping for a sequel will unfortunately have to keep their expectations very low.
