Earlier in the week, Riot Games put up a post-season wrap-up that explained how they felt about Season Two, as well as announcing their appreciation of the overwhelming support from the players. On Tuesday, Lead Designer for League of Legends, Mr. Ryan ‘Morello’ Scott gave us an idea in what direction League of Legends will be heading as we move into Season Three.
“One of the biggest places we feel we can add some interesting strategic decisions to is the item system.”
Personally, this statement and the explanation following it excites me quite a bit. It feels like each champion has one or two builds that work indefinitely for whatever role they can or choose to fill at the moment, and adding more items can help alleviate this feeling. Champions can certainly be pigeonholed into certain strategies based on their skills and what items work best with them, but having more options will help to give them more potential roles to fill.
Later in the post, Morello also announces some goals they hope to achieve by altering the jungle for the coming season.
“We had two major goals here: to add to the number of viable junglers, and to change the gank flow to ensure that the jungler isn’t the only role that defines the flow of the game during the laning phase.”
