Soon after Lego Marvel’s Avengers released, Traveller’s Tales, Warner Bros, and LucasFilm announced that Lego Star Wars: The Force Awakens is coming on June 28th, 2016.
Much like the original Lego Star Wars games, Lego Star Wars: The Force Awakens will bring back the humorous nature of the series into this film adaptation (I’m expecting a funny scene with Kylo Ren having a temper tantrum). However, what makes this Lego game cool in particular is that it will give us new information into the time between Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens. Yes, it seems like a Lego video game will be a part of the Star Wars canon, folks! Ada Duan, the Vice President of Digital Business & Franchise Management at Lucasfilm, said in the press release that “With previously untold story content exploring new details about the movie and its characters, it’s a perfect fit for fans of all ages.”
In addition, Lego Star Wars: The Force Awakens will bring new building, battling and flying mechanics to this series of video games. One new mechanic is the “Multi-Builds” system, which allows players different options of builds. Traveller’s Tales will also be bringing in Blaster Battles, which give players the ability to use the surrounding environment against their enemies. Flight based gameplay will be included too with “arena-based battles and dogfights in space,” according to the press release. Tom Stone, the Managing Director at Traveller’s Tales, said “Lego Star Wars: The Force Awakens will be pushing the series forward with innovative new gameplay mechanics, while also exploring new parts of the universe that are sure to excite and delight both LEGO and Star Wars fans, as well as newcomers to our games.”
Locales that will be included in Lego Star Wars: The Force Awakens include Jakku and Starkiller Base. All of the main characters will be available too, such as Rey, Finn, Poe Dameron, Han Solo, Chewbacca, C-3PO, BB-8, General Hux, Captain Phasma, and Kylo Ren.
PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3 owners will also have exclusive content for the game with the Droid Character Pack and the Phantom Limb Level Pack. No details have been shared about these packs at this moment.
Lego Star Wars: The Force Awakens will be coming to PS4, PS3, Vita, Xbox One, Xbox 360, PC, 3DS, and Wii U on June 28th.
