Sony was apparently very close to acquiring Limbo as a PlayStation Network exclusive. However, Sony wanted IP rights to the game, which led to the deal being scuffed.
Sony Entertainment executive producer Pete Smith spoke at Brighton’s Develop Conference last week. Smith explained that Sony was in talks with Playdead, the developer of Limbo, about an exclusive release on PSN. Playdead reportedly refused the deal when it became apparent that Sony wished to retain the IP, which subsequently led to Playdead signing a deal for a release on Xbox Live Arcade first. The game was released on PlayStation Network a year later.
Despite the late release, Limbo is still one of the best selling games on PlayStation Network.
