It has been speculated for some time now that Deep Silver would bring re-mastered versions of both Metro 2033 and Metro: Last Light to next-gen systems. Today, Deep Silver and 4A Games confirmed they’ll be releasing both games under one title called Metro Redux. This “true director’s cut” will be released for PS4, Xbox One, PC, Mac, Linux, and SteamOS. Deep Silver is promising both games will be a “complete remaster”.
Building off of the engine 4A Games used for Last Light, the team has overhauled Metro 2033. When released, gamers should expect to see many improvements with graphic quality and game mechanics. Visual improvements will consist of a new lighting engine as well as brand new cinematics shot in the first person perspective. As for gameplay, 4A has taken some elements from Last Light and brought them over to 2033. For example, players will now be able to clean their mask in case their is condensation build up or some stray blood splatter. The team has also spent time improving upon combat mechanics and weapon customization.
Due to the improved processing power of next-gen systems, 4A has taken it upon themselves to improve the overall level detail in Metro 2033. Along with improved visuals, the game will now include day/night cycles as well as expanding or connecting certain levels.
Since Last Light has been released recently, the team hasn’t had to make as many extreme changes. However, players should see improvements to graphics as the team plans to overhaul them. Some of the gameplay improvements are based on fan feedback, which means in-game, players will now be able to keep track of their inventory as well as check their watch.
Both games can be played with either the Survival or Spartan difficulty modes. For fans of the series, Survival is based off the gameplay style of Metro 2033, which means players will face tougher enemies coupled with limited supplies and slower re-loading speeds. Spartan mode is based off of Last Light’s gameplay style which plays more like modern action games. For the true diehard, Range mode is available for both games. In this mode, players will not have the benefit of a HUD and be subjected to “hardcore rules.”
For those who might prefer to download games, Deep Silver is offering games the ability to download each title for $24.99. Disc based consumers can buy both titles in one package for $49.99. The Redux package will also include all of Last Light’s downloadable content. PlayStation 4, Windows PC and Xbox One versions will be released this summer, with Linux, Mac and SteamOS versions to follow later in the year.
Deep Silver brand manager Huw Beynon has confirmed the PS4 version will run at 60fps with 1080p resolution, with the Xbox One running at 900p and 60fps.
