After reading a news article over on Kotaku, and to sum it up in as few words as possible. The writer witnessed first hand the MMO Shooter Defiance, running a multi-player match with one person on 360, and the other on PS3. Now don’t jump to conclusions just yet cause I’m about to burst the bubble.
To quote the writer “I had expected science fiction from Defiance, but I didn’t expect this. It wasn’t a magic trick. It was multi-player console gaming without borders. And it won’t be coming to a home near you.”
He mentions that Trion Worlds, creators of Defiance simply wanted to prove that you can have a cross console multi-player experience via a wiring connection. But that’s as far as it will go I’m afraid. Sony and Xbox’s online services are very complicated but very unique. The time and effort, not to mention the cost of trying to make two different types of competitive hardware run together would be too substantial.
Microsoft had this to say when asked: “We have a high level of expectation for our game developers to ensure that all Live experiences remain top notch. Because we can’t guarantee this level of quality, or control the player experience on other consoles or gaming networks, we currently do not open our network to games that allow this cross-over capability.”
Defiance is set to release in April 2013 for Xbox 360.
So no bashing the other console player in a multi-player game just yet, but perhaps someday there will be a game title that has that ability, and the carnage to suit our needs.
What do you think Viewers? Is it a far stretch of the imagination to play Consoler Vs Consoler? Or is it not as hard as Microsoft is making it all out to be? Let us know by dropping a comment below or on our twitter page.
