Yes, you read that right. Communications firm, Motorola Mobility has called upon the US government to ban the import of Microsoft’s Xbox, which is manufactured primarily in East Asia. They claim that the system that connects the controller to the console wirelessly infringes on five patents that Motorola holds and, therefore, should be barred from sale in the US.
Of course, this claim was met with rather unhappy response from some of Microsoft’s affiliates, such as Activision, Cisco, and IBM. It is highly unlikely that Motorola is going to discontinue US sales of the Xbox as so many different companies use the console as an almost direct source of revenue. Activision said that they”(have) expended and continues to expend significant resources to develop video games and accessories specially adapted to operate on Microsoft’s Xbox gaming console”. I, personally, would not expect anything to come from Motorola’s complaint.
