NBC currently has a live televised production of Peter Pan planned for this holiday, but the network isn’t done with the source material yet. Though not related to the upcoming live production, the project entitled Wendy and Peter will place the title characters in a modern workplace setting. The recently ordered program will be a single camera production for a half-hour romantic comedy in which Wendy is all grown up and searching for a “real man.” Of course, Peter refuses to grow up and Wendy ends up spending more time infatuated with flying lad for better or worse. Having recently been ordered, it’s too soon to say who will be starring in the show and how much relation it’ll have to the original source material. All we know for sure is that the executive producers will be Rashida Jones and Will McCormack.
Obviously, this would seem like an attempt by NBC to capitalize on the fairy tale craze what with ABC’s Once Upon A Time featuring several classic storybook characters (including Peter Pan). As a concept, it’s rather out there, but could be funny if written and acted well enough. Good or bad, it will certainly gain some initial attention as a more daring idea that will either be a comedy hit or a major disaster that will go down in the TV history books.
