Netflix has announced a new program for the Netflix PlayStation 3 app called Max. Max, said to be ‘the child of Siri and HAL 9000,’ is a recommendation feature that aims to provide a fun way to find something new to watch.
Max can be found on the third or fourth row of the PS3 app and, when engaged, will ask several questions about your current mood and movie/TV preferences. After a lot of use, Max will eventually resort to asking one question or, when it’s feeling really confident, will skip the questions entirely and simply recommend a show.
“…when intoxicated by past success, Max will get a little cocky and offer a suggestion right away, no questions required,” writes VP of product innovation at Netflix, Todd Yellin. “The catch…this is a mystery suggestion and you’ll just have to press play and trust him.”
Max is currently only available to U.S customers and Netflix hopes to bring the feature to other devices like the iPad, should Max perform ‘at the level he promises.’
If you need more clarification on what Max is and how he it works. Netflix has created a ‘First Look’ video that can be viewed below.
