North American residents are now able to purchase the awaited 3DS XL system from Nintendo—as well as a copy of New Super Mario Bros. 2. The Nintendo 3DS XL is a larger version of the 3DS, boasting a 90% larger screen. The portable system will be selling at a retail price of $199.99.
Along side the release of the system will be the release of New Super Mario Bros. 2, a follow-up to what was the best selling game on the Nintendo DS. The game will be available as an in-store copy, as well as a digital download to the 3DS system. It will be at a suggested retail price of $39.99. The game will also feature a co-op mode, where two players, each with their own system, and the game cards will be able to play through the entire game as Mario or Luigi.
“The larger screens of the new Nintendo 3DS XL really bring all your games to life,” said Nintendo of America’s executive vice president of Sales & Marketing, Scott Moffitt. “The colors and visuals in New Super Mario Bros. 2 look great, especially when all the levels are packed full of gold coins.”
