It has been expected for a long time but now it’s official, Nintendo are developing remakes of Pokémon Ruby & Sapphire. Known as Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire, the remakes are in development for the Nintendo 3DS. You won’t have to wait long for them either as both games are set for a worldwide release this November.
The original Ruby & Sapphire games were released on the Game Boy Advance in 2002, marking the start of the third generation of Pokémon games. The previous two generations have already seen remakes and it seems to be a policy at Nintendo that every main pair of Pokémon games should be remade 10 years after their original release. The first remakes, FireRed & LeafGreen, were released on the GBA in 2004. The follow ups, HeartGold & SoulSilver, came out on the DS in 2010.
So far no other details about the games have been revealed, but given past remakes it is safe to assume that both titles will have substantial additions and improvements. Perhaps the graphical style of Pokémon X & Y will be used. Expect to see more of Pokémon Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire at this year’s E3.
