This week, Nintendo continued to show off where they will be heading in regards to the land of mobile apps. A website has been launched for their first app, named Miitomo, which looks to be a social experience but with games attached to it. The app will allow users to create a mii, much like you use on the Wii and other Nintendo systems, and then you use it to interact with your friends, dress them up, and so forth.
Miitomo is what Nintendo refers to as “free-to-start” – much like their games on console, such as Badge Arcade. It appears that you’ll be able to use the app freely and the biggest in-app purchases seem to be various outfits for your mii. You purchase outfits with coins so it seems that you will likely earn coins by playing, but can also buy coins with your money, like most free-to-play games.
Additionally, with the launch of the Miitomo site and pre-registration, you can also pre-register for a new Nintendo account, also launching in March. This new Nintendo Account appears to be tied to My Nintendo, the new replacement for Nintendo’s former rewards program, Club Nintendo, which ended last year. When you go through the registering process, which was extremely simple, you can sync your Nintendo Network ID, as well as Facebook, Twitter, and Google+ accounts. When you pre-register, it states you will receive platinum coins when Miitomo and My Nintendo launch, so it will be interesting to see how the coin reward system works, and what kinds of rewards you will be able to obtain.
To register for a new Nintendo Account you can go here, and more information about Miitomo is located here. Hopefully they launch soon and we get a real feel for where Nintendo is going in the future.

I’m still hesitant regarding Nintendo branching out into mobiles but I hope Miitomo is fun!
I’m actually very interested to see where this goes. I’ve had some fun with the 3DS f2p games, so we’ll see how they do on mobile. I think it’s exciting times though!
