Nintendo has released a series of behind-the-scenes videos regarding the making of the insanely popular installment of The Legend of Zelda series, Breath of the Wild. The videos are short, ten-minute spotlights that talk about the story development and characters, how it all began, and the open-air concept that has taken the world by storm. Narrated by the creators, designers, and visionaries behind Breath of the Wild, each video details concept art, early ideas, and how the idea of an open-world Hyrule built an entirely new Zelda game.
So far, three videos have been released, but it is unclear if there will be more behind-the-scenes to follow. For now, each short installment is fun, interesting, and gives Zelda fans just a little bit more to obsess about. The concept art alone is a fascinating addition to the Zelda universe, as some early ideas for the characters were a little “out of character.” One design included Zelda in a Victorian-age dress, and Link riding a motorcycle. The “Open-Air Concept” video reveals that Breath of the Wild was actually a story built around a game, and not the other way around. Creators really wanted to explore the possibilities that an open world presented, and had the basic ideas of hunting and cooking before the story behind the game was even considered.
These videos are available on Nintendo’s YouTube channel, and collectively sit at about 600,000 views.
