As we inch closer to E3 time, we’re getting a better idea of just what Nintendo plans on doing for the event. A day after it teased a big workout ahead of the festivities, Nintendo’s announced that it’ll be holding a World Championship game tournament for the first time in 25 years.
As the first of its kind since the company held them in 1990, the new Nintendo World Championship will kick off on May 30th, with regional events held nationwide Best Buys. The company’s E3 championship, meanwhile, will commence Sunday, June 14th, at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles which will be streamed for us out-of-town viewers.
You can watch Nintendo’s own Reggie Fils-Aime get in shape for the event in the company’s tongue-in-cheek announcement of the tournament below.
For its show announcements, Nintendo will be hosting a special Nintendo Direct at 9 a.m. Pacific / 12 p.m. Eastern on Tuesday, June 16th. Following that, the company will be live-streaming game demos for the rest of E3.
