The free-to-play multiplayer arena title based on The Legacy of Kain series, Nosgoth, will be shutting down on May 31st, 2016. Psyonix and Square Enix have also ceased development on the game.
Oghamsmith, the community manager of Nosgoth, announced the news on the game’s website on Friday.
He said, “On behalf of the entire Nosgoth team we want to thank the community for all their feedback, support and dedication to the game during the closed and open beta phases. It’s been a pleasure to build this game with your help, but ultimately its audience hasn’t grown enough to sustain ongoing operations.”.
On the Q&A page, further details have been given on what will happen due to this cancellation.
Firstly, they have announced that “All purchases made since 1st March 2016 will be automatically refunded.” All refunds will be automatically made in the next 14 days. In addition, they have stated that “Refunds for purchases of the Definitive Pack on the Steam Store will be processed from week commencing 18th April 2016.”
For those who are worried about the game’s Open Beta Cup Series from ESL, it will be continuing in April and then afterwards, “it will cease.” ESL Gaming have said that “[their] last cup will take place on Sunday, 24th April at 14:00 CEST, with the monthly final taking place on 30th April”
The Q&A also mentions that the closure of Nosgoth does not affect the future of the Legacy of Kain series. It states that “Any future Legacy of Kain project will be considered independently of Nosgoth and on the merits of the proposals alone.”
You can still play Nosgoth and earn Gold in the game until May 31st.
Nosgoth entered open beta on January 21st, 2015 and reached over 1 million downloads after its first week. Despite this being said in a press release in January 2015, “the game hasn’t grown enough to sustain ongoing operations.” You can still play Nosgoth and earn Gold in the game until May 31st.
