EA Sports has announced that they have removed Chicago Blackhawks forward Patrick Kane from the cover of NHL 16 due to the recent criminal investigation into the Buffalo native. Kane was supposed to appear on the cover with teammate Jonathan Toews. However, Toews will appear solo on the cover lifting the Stanley Cup.
The official statement from EA Sports reads
“In light of the ongoing investigation surrounding Patrick Kane, he will no longer be a spokesperson for EA Sports NHL 16. He will not appear on the EA Sports NHL 16 cover, nor participate in other EA Sports NHL 16 promotional activities.”
On August 2nd, it was reported that police are investigating a incident that occurred outside Kane’s Buffalo home. The Buffalo News reported that on August 6th, Patrick Kane is being investigated for sexual assault. Kane has been assigned a lawyer. However, no charges have been filed.
Patrick Kane, in 2009, was charged with assault and robbery after allegedly punching a cab driver.
