The first day of PAX East 2014 is over and I spent the majority of my day walking through the Indie MEGABOOTH.
Below are some of the titled I got hands on time with and think are worthy of your attention.
Darkest Dungeon is a hardcore tactical turn-based RPG that puts the emphasis on the stresses of entering the dungeon. Their affliction system will differentiate themselves from others in this genre. The art style and presentation are off the charts. Chris Bourassa and team have nailed this game.
Echoes of Eridu is made by Batterystaple Games from Baltimore. The game is considered a spiritual successor to MegaMan. It’s a rogue-like action platformer that includes full local and online cooperative mode. Their Kickstarter, and Steam Greenlight campaigns kicked off yesterday.
Distance is a survival racing game that combines the action of arcade racing with the exploration of an atmospheric world. It’s you against the track as you control your vehicle which allows you to boost, jump, rotate, and fly through the environment.
Secret Ponchos is an online combat game that takes place in the Wild West. Players battle against each other for notoriety and reputation in one-vs-one duels, western style gang fights, or Free-For-All mode. You can create and customize your own character which can then be upgraded with reputation points. The developer’s feel that the game combines the strategic elements of overhead camera games, the team dynamics first person shooters and elements from the fighting genre.
Tower of Guns combines circle-strafing, rocket-jumping, and twitch-based combat. The game is an old school first-person shooter with roguelike elements. The game looks to have many levels, bosses, powerups, as well as unlockable weapons and items.
Delver’s Drop is a 2D action RPG with physics-based movement, close quarters combat, evolving dungeons, and many character classes. The game puts an emphasis on a dynamic gameplay experiences. It will feature randomization for added replay value and multiple narrative paths.
