The latest news on our favorite Ace Attorney may be pointing to quite a different court room for quite a different Wright. Reports have it that series creator Shu Takumi is hard at work with another 3DS Phoenix Wright title thanks to leaked screenshots of Famitsu magazine’s most recent issue covering the upcoming game.
Back in February, Nintendo president Satoru Iwata had disclosed in a Japan exclusive Nintendo Direct that a then-unrevealed Ace Attorney project was well underway. It seems that clue has now come to fruition.
Translations of the screenshots seem to claim the game will be set in Japan’s turbulent Meiji era (Sept. 1868 through July 1912) and star one of Phoenix Wright’s descendants, Naruhodou Ryuunosuke (pictured below). The young man is shown carrying a sword in traditional Japanese garb of the era and sporting decidedly mellow hair for a future ace attorney. He is described as having a strong sense of justice and just a bit brash when it comes to diving into danger.
The game’s full title is Dai Gyakuten Saiban — Naruhodou Ryuunosuke no Bouken, roughly translating to Grand Turnabout Trial — The Adventures of Naruhodou Ryuunosuke according to reports.
Takumi has long been attached to his series of creation, working on it since 2001’s original Nintendo DS title, Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney. He was not involved with Ace Attorney: Dual Destinies, however, due to his commitment to working on the crossover title Professor Layton vs. Ace Attorney, now out in the UK.
