If you are eagerly awaiting the video game inspired action/comedy Pixels, you’re going to be waiting a little longer. The film originally set to release on May 15, 2015 and is now set for a July 24, 2015 theatrical release. No official word yet on the reason for the delay, though it’s most likely to allow more time to work on the special effects.
Pixels will involve Adam Sandler, Kevin James, Michelle Monaghan, Josh Gad, Peter Dinklage and Brian Cox attempting to save Earth from an invading force of aliens resembling classic video game characters. The film is being directed by Chris Columbus with a screenplay by Tim Herlihy and Timothy Dowling. You can read the full synopsis of the film from Sony below:
In Pixels, intergalactic aliens misinterpret video-feeds of classic arcade games as a declaration of war against them and attack the Earth, using the games as models for their various assaults. President Will Cooper (James) has to call on his childhood best friend, ’80s video game champion Sam Brenner (Sandler), now a home theater installer, to lead a team of old-school arcaders (Dinklage and Gad) to defeat the aliens and save the planet. Monaghan plays the team’s unique weapons specialist.
