Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City has officially been announced. Co-developed by Capcom and Slant Six, Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City is the next upcoming release in the series and will take place between the events of Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3: Nemesis. Slant Six is describing the game’s plot as a new twist on the events of the original T-Virus outbreak in Raccoon City and the game will make great strides to change some of the facts from the original storylines. Players will have the choice whether to play either an officer of the Umbrella Security Service (USS) or a member of a U.S. Special Forces Task Force. Your decision will have major ramifications on the outcome of the game and could literally cost the life of Leon S. Kennedy.
But don’t worry folks, we still have some time before the game hits stores. It’s been reported that the game is only about 48% complete and the developers are still deciding whether to add “Bio-Organic Weapon” enemies, whatever those are, to the game. The game is expected to be released sometime in late 2011 and will feature a single-player campaign as well as a multiplayer (possibly co-op?) component. It will be available on the Xbox 360, PS3, and PC.
Capcom is expecting Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City to be a major hit and has set a goal post of over 2.5 million sales worldwide. Check out the official HD trailer from Slant Six and Capcom below and decide for yourself. Is Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City worthy of the franchise title?
