There have been several updates regarding the availability of the special edition units for the upcoming multiplatform title Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City by Christian Svensson, Corporate Officer and Senior Vice-President of Capcom. When Svensson was asked why Amazon is no longer taking pre-orders for the special edition, Svensson responded with the following statement:
“I’m almost positive their allocation is fully pre-ordered which is why it’s no longer listed. The SE’s were turned off by GameStop/Amazon a couple months ago I believe.”
When asked about other ways to procure the special edition, or if Capcom will produce more in the future, Svennson added:
“I’m sure there are retailers that have allocations but that don’t do pre-orders so rigidly. You’ll have to hurry on launch day though.
Alas, we can’t make more. We started manufacturing on the steel book cases months in advance because they take that long with shipping time to us (they’re manufactured in Europe).”
The special edition comes with a copy of the game, stylized sleeve U.S.S. and Spec Ops embroidered patches, six alternate costumes, eight in-game weapons, and a steel book case with exclusive art. The special edition retails for $20 more than the standard version.
Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City launches for the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 March 20th in North America.
