Quite a few Metroid fans were disappointed at this years’s E3 mini Nintendo event, because the only game Retro studios is working on is another entry in the Donkey Kong Country series. While another Metroid installment is in the cards its not not quite set in stone as far as storyline, game play, etc. are involved to get the wheels in motion for a new Metrtoid. Shigeru Miyamoto, Zelda and Mario creator and head of Nintendo’s Entertainment Analysis and Development division said that Retro Studios would be given strong consideration for the next Metroid game.
As far as Retro is concerned, Miyamoto says that it has come to a point for them where they will have multiple lines running at the same with different projects moving forward.
“Retro is a very capable studio and can design a lot of different types of games and I know that because I produced Metroid Prime,” said Miyamoto.
The Metroid Prime trilogy did very well on the GameCube and Wii platforms and helped develop Retro as one of the devolopers who reallly understood Metroid, its world, characters, and first person shooter style of game play. Miyamoto said that Nintendo thinks highly of the Metroid series and one that is of high value and worthy of seeing where things could go next for Samus and company.
The last console Metroid game was Metroid: Other M developed by Team Ninja. Other M received fair reviews but didn’t manage to capture the thrills of the previous Prime trilogy. Retro made their last Metroid installment in Metroid Prime 3: Corruption which received rave reviews.
So far there is no new of any new Metroid games in the pipeline but we will keep you posted.
