Gritty and Dark. Two words that perfectly describe the third incarnation of Max Payne. No, that man in the video above is not an alcoholic like you’d believe, he’s actually ex-cop Max Payne. RockStar Games is making a gamble with Max Payne 3, switching the old dark snow covered streets with the warm and humid environment of Brazil. But by all accounts it’s still the same Max Payne we remember from the old days. It tells a story of a man still troubled by his past with a closet full of demons and even though years have past and he has a new gig in private security in Brazil he’s almost certain to find much more despair.
Max Payne 3 is due March 2012 for the Xbox 360, PS3, and PC. Here’s the official description:
Still haunted by the memories of his traumatic past, Max begins a new life working private security protecting a wealthy industrialist and his family in São Paulo, Brazil. When gangs target the family under his protection, Max is forced to fight to save his clients and clear his name, in a bid to, once and for all, rid himself of the demons that have tortured him for far too long.
In a way, we hope he hasn’t changed and that he’s still reeling from the brutal murders of his wife and child. But in another way we hope that he has struck out and grown as a character as many years have passed since those events. Maybe, just maybe, with Rockstar Games going out on a limb to switch up the environment they will also develop on the already great character of Max Payne. All we really hope for in the end is that the game stays true to it’s roots and offers us hours of some bullet time fun.
