Technology journalist and Forbes contributor Jason Evangelho has teased on twitter that video game publisher Deep Silver has big plans for this year’s E3. The tweet reads ”Deep Silver have ‘two unannounced AAA games’ to show us at #E3. EXCITE! Any guesses on the titles?’ The fact that he asks for guesses suggests that these titles will be sequels to well known franchises rather than new IP.
Although not one of the largest publishers in the industry, Deep Silver is slowly becoming a more prominent force. One of their biggest hits so far has been Dead Island which launched in 2011. Developed by Polish studio Techland the game grabbed a lot of media attention for its unusual trailer and got a sequel in 2013 called Dead island: Riptide. It is possible that one of the unannounced titles will be a third game in the franchise for next generation consoles. However, Techland is very busy at the moment as they are currently working on two new IPs. One of these is the survival horror game Dying Light, which is being published by Warner Bros. later this year. Techland are also working on their next generation action game Hellraid, due for release next year.
So what else could these unannounced titles be? When THQ went bankrupt in 2o13, Deep Silver bought the rights to the Saints Row and Metro franchises. They also bought Saints Row developer Volition Inc. We know that Metro developer 4A games are developing a re-release of their two Metro games which will be called Metro: Redux. Although nothing else is known about Metro; Redux it still doesn’t qualify as an announced game. Volition on the other hand have been almost completely silent since the release of Saints Row IV last year. A next generation Saints Row V announcement could well be coming at E3 2014.
