While The Simpsons are already crossing paths with the characters on both Family Guy and Futurama, it seems they have yet another universe to crossover. However, this time they’ll actually be crossing paths with themselves in one of the most strangely meta episodes yet. This year’s Treehouse of Horror special will find the modern Simpsons being haunted by ghosts of The Tracey Ullman Show designed Simpsons.
The yellow family first debuted on The Tracey Ullman Show in 1987 with crude and sketchy designs that improved over time before the series pilot hit Fox in 1989. The explanation for this version of the characters being ghosts seems like a plot straight out of an online creepypasta. According to series executive producer Al Jean, the old characters were murdered and buried under the house. These ghosts will be voiced by the same cast, but they’ll be doing their best to try to nail their original voices when they first started recording the cartoon.
The Simpsons‘ Treehouse of Horror episode will air on October 19 on Fox.
