No surprises here. In the weakest weekend of the whole year, Guardians of the Galaxy has come out on top once again with a $10,160,000 estimated gross. Considering it hasn’t even blinked from the top 5 while also being the top domestic grossing film of the year, this makes for a major success to Marvel and Disney (and it hasn’t even finished its run by a long shot). Expect the film to stick around in the top 10 at least until the end of September.
There were no major surprises as far as the rest of the top 10 is concerned. There were a few shifts in a handful of spots, but only by wee marginal differences. The only new film that opened up this weekend was the Elvis drama The Identical which only scraped together $1,911,000, not even enough to crack the top 10.
Check the full top 10 below:
- Guardians of the Galaxy: $10,160,000
- Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (2014): $6,500,000
- If I Stay: $5,750,000
- Let’s Be Cops: $5,400,000
- The November Man: $4,200,000
- As Above/So Below: $3,723,000
- When the Game Stands Tall: $3,700,000
- The Giver: $3,603,000
- The Hundred-Foot Journey: $3,200,000
- Lucy: $1,950,000
Next weekend will be the first real challenge for Guardians of the Galaxy with Dolphin Tale 2 hitting 3,500+ theaters. If it’s not enough to kick Marvel’s cosmic blockbuster out of the top spot, the following week with Maze Runner is a strong contender.
