During an investor call today, EA announced that Star Wars Battlefront‘s sequel would be arriving in the Fall of 2017. Blake Jorgensen, EA’s chief financial officer, announced the game will be an “extremely deep and engaging offering.”
There isn’t much else to this news, as the release window of Fall is only a narrower time frame than the vague “2017” release window which was previously posited. EA DICE’s Star Wars Battlefront received only one extremely major complaint and that was its lack of a campaign, something which EA has suggested will be present in the sequel. The original game lacked a campaign in order to be released in time with Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens, which helped sales but didn’t help its reviews. Unsurprisingly, the sequel will seemingly hit just before Star Wars Episode VIII is released on December 15, 2017.
I think the fact that Jorgensen cites offering a much deeper and engaging offering implies heavily that a campaign will definitely be in the mix. It would sort of be silly to not include one based on the negative feedback the game received. Regardless, Star Wars Battlefront‘s sequel will arrive in Fall 2017 and I can’t be more excited to see what changes are made to make the game better.
