The Street Fighter franchise has seen numerous live action adaptations of their popular fighting game series. It is no secret that these live action adaptations have been far from critically acclaimed. Capcom is not shying away though from Hollywood with the franchise’s newly announced series, Street Fighter: The Assassin’s Fist.
The series is a successor to the well received fan film Street Fighter: Legacy. Capcom has embraced the short film, and granted it’s development in to an online web series of which the company itself will be involved with.
The series will retain the original writers of the fan film. It will be co-written by the fan film’s creator, Joey Ansah, and Christian Howard, who played the role of Ken in the film. Howard has touted some of the aspects of the film. “Our priority is to stay true to the appearance, fighting techniques and canon of the Street Fighter game,” Howard explains. “At the same time we’ve managed to make this an emotion and character driven story, which will surprise viewers who might just be expecting a super faithful fight fest!”
Both Howard and Ansah announced the series at the San Diego Comic Con. You can view the announcement here.
