Capcom has announced the release of Street Fighter V, the latest installment in their classic fighting franchise. Through a partnership between Sony and Capcom, cross-platform play is now available to bring a unified player base for the first time in the series.
The initial purchase of Street Fighter V will be the only purchase necessary to ensure players always have the most up-to-date version of the title. A cinematic story expansion will be coming in June of this year as a free update, with further gameplay content, costumes, new challenges, and balance system updates coming over the course of this year and beyond.
Also for the first time in Street Fighter history, all post-launch content will be free of charge. Instead, in-game currency called Fight Money can be earned by completing various challenges. However, if players are especially impatient to get their hands on new content, there is also the option of instantly acquiring it via purchased in-game currency called Zenny.
The very first update of 2016 will be arriving in March, which is also when the in-game store will open. The update will bring a new World Warrior, Alex, to the roster. Apparently if players have played through the majority of the single-player content at launch, they will have earned enough Fight Money to add Alex for no additional cost.
Street Fighter V is currently $59.99 and is available physically as well as digitally. It is PlayStation 4 and PC exclusive.
