As if Warner Brothers wasn’t already busy enough with their three new DC Comics TV series (The Flash, Constantine, Gotham), you can add one more to the list. The next DC Comics character to receive a TV series is set to be Supergirl, the Kryptonian cousin of Superman. But before you get all excited for another TV trip back to Smallville/Metropolis, keep in mind that this project is in the earliest stages of development. There are no stars cast and not even an official title announced. What we do know is that Greg Berlanti (The Flash, Arrow) is heading up the development for this Warner Brothers produced TV series.
While I’m all for bringing the character for television, one little note about the development has me worried. According to Deadline, this will be a new interpretation of the character and her story. Those words give off an eerie vibe similar to what WB proposed with the Wonder Woman pilot that failed hard. Still, I am slightly hopeful with potential of comic writer Geoff Johns (Green Lantern, Justice League) who may be on the writing staff. At the very least, it’s a big step for DC Comics with so many TV projects to take a step up at developing a female superhero show while Marvel is still avoiding the subject. Couple this with the rumored Wonder Woman movie and Warner Brothers/DC Comics may just round up more female viewers than Marvel in the future.
