A wealth of world premieres were shown off at last night’s The Game Awards and among the first was our promised first look at the all-new online multiplayer for Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. As chance would have it, stealth-action ops are rather fun, as their candid selfies would lead you to believe.
The multiplayer boasted a variety of your typical character customization. It will also see the return of Metal Gear Solid: Peacewalker‘s Fulton Recovery System allowing you to capture enemy players for recruitment to your team, the least of which include iconic series characters.
As presented by series creator Hideo Kojima and Kojima Industries Los Angeles, the new Metal Gear Online saw Kiefer Sutherland’s “Punished Snake” taking the lead infiltrating an enemy base. Some of the team wears active camouflage, Snake teleports away from a mech at the last minute, and players use all sorts of gadgets to foil their foes.
Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain releases next year for Playstation 4, Xbox One, PC, Playstation 3, and Xbox 360. Set in the 1980s, the game follows Snake’s rise from war hero to the dark mantle of the original Metal Gear’s Big Boss, concluding the story begun in Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes starring Robin Atkin Downes, Troy Baker, Christopher Randolph, James Horan, Anthony Del Rio, and Sutherland in the role of Punished Snake/Big Boss.
