Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare and Battlefield 1 wowed gamers in 2016. The year 2017 looks even more promising and full of surprises for game lovers.
Here is a list of the most exciting games coming up this year:
1. Mass Effect: Andromeda
The fourth game in the Mass Effect series, Andromeda brings a number of important changes. For the first time, either a female or a male will take the role as protagonist in the series. Players can choose between brother and sister, Sara or Ryder Scott. The action is set 600 years after the events of the first three games in the Andromeda galaxy. Moreover, gamers will be able for the first time to control a jeep that can quickly explore the planets of the galaxy. The game will be available March 21, 2017 on PC, PS4 and Xbox One.
2. Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite
More than five years after the last game, 2017 will finally see Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite. For now, the details for the game are few, but it will include many characters that have become popular in recent years, such as Iron Man and Captain America or Ryu and Mega Man X. Unfortunately, it seems the new game will not contain characters from the X-Men series, due to the game developer not having the license for them. The game will be a PS4 exclusive.
3. State of Decay 2
With its launch in 2013, State of Decay was lauded as one of the best zombie games of all time. The follow up, State of Decay 2 will launch sometime in 2017 and will be available on Xbox One and PC.
4. Injustice 2
Injustice was Warner Bros. answer to compete with Marvel Vs. Capcom. In the sequel, Injustice 2 gamers will be able to control beloved characters like Batman, Superman, Aquaman, Harley Quinn or Deadshot. In addition, the game will introduce an upgrade system for characters based on won battles, so players can manipulate the appearance and abilities of their characters as they progress. Injustice 2 will be dropping in May 2017 on Xbox One and PS4.
5. Dawn Horizon Zero
Up until now we have only spoken about sequels of older games, finally we arrive at a new title that will hopefully redefine what it means to be an adventure game. Developed by Guerrilla Games and published by Sony and an other PS4 exclusive, Dawn Horizon Zero will open up a whole world for players to explore and discover. The action is set 1000 years in the future when the world we used to know is populated by robotic “dinosaurs”. Dawn Horizon Zero will release on February 28, 2017 and only on Playstation 4.
6. Resident Evil 7: Biohazard
The Resident Evil series is as well known to gamers as Mario or iconic characters like Batman and Superman. It’s had its ups and downs, with many wins, but a couple misses in the past few years. Resident Evil 7: Biohazard looks to be a completely different animal, coming from the same realm as the P.T. demo that got us all excited for the now cancelled Silent Hills game. The game promises a terrifying story line, trapping players in a horrifying and decrepit “abandoned” home, forcing them to escape before being murdered by the psychopathic killers that call it home. If the Resident Evil 7 demo is any indicator, the game is going to be terrifyingly awesome and a hopeful return to Resident Evil mystery and survival horror past we remember from our childhoods. RE7 will grace our lives on January 24, 2017 and be available on PC, PS4 and Xbox One.
7. Spider-Man
2017 could finally be the year that we get a decent game staring Spider-Man, one our most beloved comic book characters. Developed by Insomniac Games, the game will take place in an open-world setting and will allow players to experience the story from the point of view of Peter Parker (Spider-Man). The game will be yet another PS4 exclusive. Expect it sometime in late 2017.
8. Prey
A game some gamers thought would never actually come out, Prey will apparently launch in 2017. The first images show impressive graphics, and critics wait to see if this will be what the game actually looks like in its final form when it actually emerges. Needless to say, Bethesda is behind this project, and with major titles like Fallout and Skyrim we should expect a decent title. With the expected minor and annoying Bethesda bugs and issues of course (do they ever release a finished game?). The game will be available Q2 2017 on PC, Xbox One and PS4.
9. Halo Wars 2
The real-time strategy game promises an expansive single-player campaign and a more complex interface that will keep players interested. Halo Wars 2 will also host multiplayer modes like deathmatch and dominion. The game will be released in late February 2017 on Xbox One and PC.
10. God of War
Yet another God of War game will make its debut in 2017. The protagonist, Kratos will battle (and probably murder) the gods of Norse mythology. The developers promise a few interface changes, but the visceral element that made the games popular will remain. God of War will launch sometime in 2016 with the exact release date TBA. It will be a PS4 exclusive.
11. Red Dead Redemption 2
The first game of the series changed the way open world games were viewed. With an extremely well written plot, the game placed in the Wild West destroyed many sales records. It is to be seen whether part 2 will match its forebears success (my gambit is that it will). With developer Rockstar Games still at the helm, it is more like than not that the game will hit it out of the park. Unfortunately, like its predecessor, Red Dead Redemption 2 WILL NOT be available on PC, but only on PS4 and Xbox One.
