Welcome to another week of video game releases. Last week saw very few noteworthy releases, and this week is pretty slim too, but there’s still plenty to talk about from cars that go fast to hedgehogs that go fast to space marines that go fast. But don’t scroll fast through this list of new releases!
The biggest release of this week for me is Need for Speed Payback from Ghost Games. This is their third crack at the Need for Speed franchise since breaking off from Criterion and forming their own studio, and seems like the most ambitious yet. While it ditches last year’s FMV, Need for Speed Payback goes for a story-focused campaign that looks a lot like it’s cashing in on The Fast and the Furious franchise of films, which might be the smartest decision ever made for the Need for Speed franchise. The two should hopefully go together like peanut butter and jelly. You can race against The House on PS4, Xbox One, and PC on November 10th.
Finally, after a long time, Sonic is back with Sonic Forces which brings the hedgehog to PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC. You can create your own character to join along in this adventure as Sonic leads a rebellion against Doctor Eggman. The world has been taken over by him and its up to you to help stop him from complete world domination. Sonic fans will probably enjoy themselves with Sonic Forces but personally, I’m still in the anti-Sonic camp, so don’t ask me whether I’ll be picking up the game when it comes out on November 7th.
Nintendo Switch fans who want to stop the world from being taken over, but with more blood and guts, can rejoice with the release of Doom on the platform. This might be the most M-rated game that Nintendo has received in a while. Switch fans will have the chance to enjoy one of the best games from 2016, and I’m personally just so excited to see games like this making their way to the Switch platform. Get ready to glory kill some demons on November 10th.
As for smaller releases, The Sims 4 players can get their hands on the Cats & Dogs expansion on November 10th for PC and Mac users. Hitman is getting the Game of the Year treatment on November 7th with Hitman – Game of the Year Edition, including an option to upgrade from the first season to the GOTY edition for a small fee. Those playing Telltale Games’ Guardians of the Galaxy can finish the season on November 7th. PlayStation VR users can get a friend to play against them in League of War: VR Arena, which releases on November 7th. And finally, Hand of Fate 2 will be released on PS4, Xbox One, PC, and Mac on November 7th for those who need their action RPG fix.
That’s it for this week! Next week, get ready for some Star Wars and Marvel properties to return.
