A new Tomb Raider title is currently in development for next-gen systems, Square Enix has revealed.
In a note posted on the Square Enix Europe Blog, CEO Phil Rogers spoke about some changes coming to the company and reminded people of a couple of big titles that are being worked on. One of which is a sequel to Lara Croft’s most recent adventure.
“I can categorically say that we’re not abandoning core, triple-A console and PC games,” said Rogers. “We’re working hard at improving how we develop our games and how we release them, and I want to explain that in a little more detail.”
“Square Enix is in production with a number of next generation projects, including Final Fantasy XV and Kingdom Hearts III, which were announced at this year’s E3, and Thief coming in 2014. I am also excited to reveal that we are well into development on a next-generation Tomb Raider sequel – something you may have heard about recently!”
Tomb Raider was well received by many, but didn’t meet Square Enix’s expectations, so to be told that a sequel is in development is a really good thing to hear. Tomb Raider was great, and now that Lara knows what she’s doing, I can’t wait to see what she’ll get into on next-gen platforms.
