Whilst digital games sales have increased rapidly since services such as XBLA started, retail sales are still the place to be as we all line up for midnight launches, moan at staff in stores who try to sell us disc covers every time we walk through the door and, of course, grab those sweet pre-order bonuses.
2012 was a great year for games and it may be a little surprising who took the top spot in the publisher rankings after all of the recent news stories about how many copies Call of Duty: Black Ops II has sold.
The publisher rankings are below, courtesy of MCV:
1. EA
2. Activision
3. Ubisoft
4. Nintendo
5. Microsoft
6. Sega
7. Warner Bros
8. Take-Two
9. THQ
10. Square Enix
Did any of these take you by surprise? It’s also interesting to note just how well Sega has done according to these stats… Let us know what you think in the comments below!
