What was once a silly board game is now marketed into a new horror film. The famous Oujia game board for speaking to spirits is getting the big screen treatment. The UK trailer reveals pretty much everything you’d expect for a movie based off such a thin concept. From a first glance, it doesn’t appear all that original as the board itself is just a gimmicky setup for another found-footage horror film. Basic scares, basic creeps and basic teen characters. Hopefully the trailer is not revealing the whole story and there is something more to the film than this preview. It’s highly unlikely, but there’s always hope that one of these quick horror concepts will hit the mark, right?
The film is written by Juliet Snowden and Stiles White and will star Olivia Cooke, Douglas Smith, and Bianca Santos. Read the press release below for more information.
In Ouija, a group of friends must confront their most terrifying fears when they awaken the dark powers of an ancient spirit board. Stiles White directs the supernatural thriller that is produced by Platinum Dunes partners Michael Bay, Andrew Form and Brad Fuller (The Purge, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Friday the 13th) alongside Blumhouse Productions’ Jason Blum (Paranormal Activity and Insidious series, The Purge), Bennett Schneir (Battleship) and Hasbro. Juliet Snowden and Stiles White wrote the script for Ouija, and Universal will distribute the film worldwide.
Oujia will in theaters just in time for Halloween on October 24, 2014.
