Files have been discovered within Valve’s program, Source Filmmaker which call upon what seems to be a new engine under the title ‘Source 2’.
As seen on Valvetime.net, lines in the code included details such as: “Return an str with the current engine version. If key doesn’t exist, assume ‘Source’, otherwise invalid — assume next-gen ‘Source 2′”.
The original Source engine, developed in 2004 has seen numerous tweaks over the years to bring players better gaming experiences such as through improved graphics and platform support.
Source Filmmaker, released last month on Steam, is a free program which grants users access to assets and such from games (including Team Fortress) to make movies. Valve recently stated, “We don’t like to brag, but Source is considered the most flexible, comprehensive, and powerful game development environment out there. And it’s about to get even better.”
