Retired director Steven Soderbergh is exploring a whole new world of film direction in his twilight years. His latest experiment is turning Steven Spielberg‘s adventure classic Raiders of the Lost Ark into a black and white silent picture. It’s not meant to be a parody or satire as there are no additional effects or title cards inserted. This is the complete film turned black and white with no audio. The purpose of this experiment is to emphasize the importance of staging and contrast without distracting audio or colors. Outside of it being an educational experience for filmmakers, it’s just a pleasure to watch and see how well the film holds up when forced with these limitations.
