Welcome to another installment of This Week On Blu-Ray, where I tell you what the big releases are and whether they’re worth getting. Another week, another dour time for movies. Unless you need your taste of God, cause we’ve got some God’s Not Dead 2 with 100% less Kevin Sorbo! Starring Melissa Joan Hart and Ray Wise, this entry has something to do with politics. In other news, advertisements were disavowed from the Republican National Convention in fear of the movie reaching out to its intended audience.
Lest I forget I work for a video game website, I would be remiss to not mention The Angry Birds Movie. With a cast like Jason Sudeikis, Josh Gad, Maya Rudolph, and Bill Hader, we should be a little excited, right? I wish this were the case. After a worldwide haul of $345 million dollars worldwide, I don’t feel too bad for not seeing it. Maybe you will?
Do you still watch Once Upon A Time? Wait, you never did? Well the fifth season is out! Now’s the time to catch up on Jennifer Morrison and Gennifer Goodwin deal with numerous Disney characters that have no right to all be featured in the same place. It’s like fan fiction at its finest.
In genre news, Shout Factory has released the latest film in their Shout Select series, The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across The 8th Dimension. That’s quite the title. The 1984 cult classic stars Peter Weller as the titular character and John Lithgow as Dr. Emilio Lizardo, his nemesis. If you haven’t seen the film, now seems like the perfect time to do so. I certainly plan on looking into it.
Alright everybody, that’s it for this week on blu-ray. Next week is nowhere near as disappointing as we deal with some zombies, a Woman in the Dunes, a Midnight Run, some bad guys, and The Nice Guys. Until next time…
