Wii U titles releasing around the same time as the Wii U will focus primarily on using just one GamePad, despite it being said at E3 that the Wii U will support up to two GamePads. The reason for this according to Reggie Fils-Aime, President of Nintendo of America, is that developers will need to manage how one GamePad will respond to the game for asymmetric play before introducing the third screen of the second GamePad (your TV + first GamePad + second GamePad = 3 screens).
He stated to Gamasutra, “It’s going to be well after launch for those game experiences to come to life.
“Asymmetric gameplay is going to be the next major step forward, just like active play was when we launched the Wii,” Fils-Aime continued. “We think that’s where developers will focus first, then there will be multiple experiences that have two GamePads.”
He went on to say: “There’s a lot of things that can be done. I’ve already gotten letters from Pokemon fans wishing we would do something with it.”
Regarding a price for the console, CVG noted Fils-Aime as saying last week that users will be “pleasantly surprised” by it.
