X-Men: Days of Future Past may be hitting DVD and Blu-ray on October 14, but good things are coming to those who wait. An extended cut of Days of Future Past will be released next summer featuring Anna Paquin as Rogue. The new cut will feature 10 minutes of deleted footage which include other characters as well, but is mostly being dubbed as the Rogue Cut. No official date has been given, but it will be debuting on video sometime in 2015. Simon Kinberg, who made the announcement, had this to say:
It’s a big chunk, a substantial part of the movie. We want to give (fans) the fullest picture of the film — behind the camera, and in front of it. … Every movie has scenes that are cut out, but not every movie has scenes cut out with such a beloved character.
And director Bryan Singer gave his two cents on the cut as well.
It’s a really good sequence and it will probably end up on the DVD so people can see it. But like many things in the editing process, it was an embarrassment of riches and it was just one of the things that had to go.
This isn’t the first time Fox has done this as with the extended and much improved version of The Wolverine on video. Of course, if you can’t wait, the theatrical cut is currently available to purchase digitally and on DVD/Blu-ray this October.
