None of us have played in (or quite understood) the world of Hellblade yet, but developer Ninja Theory has already announced that you’ll be able to play it in the prettiest graphics possible, at the very least. The former Playstation 4 exclusive will be available on PC sometime soon and it’s all thanks to some virtual, PC muscle, Ninja Theory tells us.
“I think PC offers us a level of freedom that we haven’t had before,” Ninja Theory co-founder Tameem Antoniades said in an interview with PC Gamer. “We’re looking at everything we do on this project and figuring out better ways of doing things compared to how the traditional AAA console model works. And consoles are following suit with PC, but I think they’re years behind what things like Steam are doing.”
Antoniades adds that the platform restrictions imposed by console manufacturers like Microsoft and Sony hinder Ninja Theory’s ability to rapidly tweak and play test Hellblade – something that’s not an issue in creating a PC port.
How Hellblade‘s PC version will differ from its console port is unknown, though Antoniades notes that Ninja Theory is looking to make Hellblade rather technologically open-ended, including support for player-generated mods and plenty of additional downloadable content in the future (*cough* ‘DLC’ *cough*):
“I think we want to get to the point where we can invite players and fans to add to the game, and do things that are unexpected, and suggest ideas or add-ons that can make the game richer.”
Hellblade follows a mighty Celtic warrior by the name of Senua who embarks on a journey of self-discovery, chanting, and basically raising some highly-rendered hell on lots of unsuspecting people. The game releases, for now, sometime this year in 2015.
